14 Weeks!

I have said it before and I will say it again… TIME IS FLYING! We are already at 14 weeks! I can't believe it.

I had a doctors appointment today. Everything seems to be right on track. The doctor was able to find the babys heartbeat with his handheld doppler. Craig and I got to hear the heartbeat last week when we had our "surprise photo shoot" but it was so nice hearing that sweet little sound again today. I could listen to it all day long.

It's crazy how much I love this baby already. I always knew that would happen but I had no idea the extent of the love you feel so soon! Not to get to sappy, but it's amazing how much you can love something you have never really seen or held. Ahhhh brings a tear to my eye, but that's not hard these days!

Your pregnancy: 14 weeks

How your baby's growing:

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

How your life's changing:

Welcome to your second trimester! Your energy is likely returning, your breasts may be feeling less tender, and your queasiness may have completely abated by now. If not, hang on — chances are good it will soon be behind you (although an unlucky few will still feel nauseated months from now).

The top of your uterus is a bit above your pubic bone, which may be enough to push your tummy out a tad. Starting to show can be quite a thrill, giving you and your partner visible evidence of the baby you've been waiting for. Take some time to plan, daydream, and enjoy this amazing time. It's normal to worry a bit now and then, but try to focus on taking care of yourself and your baby, and having faith that you're well equipped for what's ahead.

YAY for the second trimester!!!!! I am happy that I don't have to worry about morning sickness rearing its ugly head at any moment. I feel SO lucky that I didn't have much of that side effect. Whew!

I keep reading that my energy level should be picking up around this time. Although I am not 100% back to my "normal" energy level, I am definitely noticing a difference. I don't feel like I am going to pass out the minute I get to work in the morning. Work outs are getting a little bit easier because of the tiny boost of energy I have left at the end of the day. That makes me happy. Anything I can do to keep myself moving and stay in shape is great. I know that working out doesn't guarantee an "easy" delivery but I know that being in shape helps! I hope I can keep working out througout the entire pregnancy. My ass will thank me too! LOL

My next appointment is scheduled for May 19… at that time I will be 18 weeks and they will then schedule the big ultrasound where (hopefully) we will find out the sex of the baby! I am on pins and needles… I can't wait! It's killing me! I want to know if there's a little boy or a little girl growing in my belly. I can't wait to pick an name and get to work on the nursery!
